Resolution of Lexical Ambiguities in Spoken Dialogue System

چکیده
The development of conversational multidomain spoken dialogue systems poses new challenges for the reliable processing of less restricted user utterances. Unlike in controlled and restricted dialogue systems a simple oneto-one mapping from words to meanings is no longer feasible here. In this paper two different approaches to the resolution of lexical ambiguities are applied to a multi-domain corpus of speech recognition output produced from spontaneous utterances in a spoken dialogue system. The resulting evaluations show that all approaches yield significant gains over the majority class baseline performance of .68, i.e. fmeasures of .79 for the knowledge-driven approach and .86 for the supervised learning approach.

متن کاملAmbiguity representation and resolution in spoken dialogue systems
Spoken natural language often contains ambiguities that must be addressed by a spoken dialogue system. In this work, we present the internal semantic representation and resolution strategy of a dialogue system designed to understand ambiguous input. These mechanisms are domain independent; task-specific knowledge is represented in parameterizable data structures. Speech input is processed throu...

Phonological variation in speech production can neutralize phonemic distinctions. In some cases, the alternations also create lexical ambiguity, as in the sentence “A quick rum picks you up,” where the underlined sequence could be interpreted as either rum or as a place assimilated form of run. Three cross-modal priming experiments examined the perceptual resolution of these ambiguities. In a n...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Model for Understanding Composite Spoken Descriptions
We describe a probabilistic reference disambiguation mechanism developed for a spoken dialogue system mounted on an autonomous robotic agent. Our mechanism receives as input referring expressions containing intrinsic features of individual concepts (lexical item, size and colour) and features involving more than one concept (ownership and location). It then performs probabilistic comparisons be...
